They respect it the way you respect fire: from a distance, and with rules.
So when a colossal wolf stepped out of the trees at a gravesite, nobody thought “wonder.”
They thought: danger.
Someone screamed.
A deputy’s hand went to his weapon.
And the radio crackled with one ugly sentence:
“Tactical inbound. Take the shot if he charges.”
But the wolf didn’t charge.
He walked straight to the coffin…
and collapsed against it like something inside him had finally broken.
And that was only the beginning of what the town was about to learn.
