She Didn’t Come Back for Love — She Came Back to Collect
Daniel didn’t move.
For a second, the words didn’t even register — like his brain refused to accept them.
Then it hit him.
The woman looked past him into the house, scanning like she already knew where Lily’s room was.
“It was hard back then,” she said, dismissive. “I was 20. No job. No support. I had no choice.”
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
She shrugged like she was explaining a missed bus.
“I’ve done the hard part already, haven’t I?” she added. “You raised her. Good. That saves me the trouble.”
That’s when Daniel felt the shift behind him.
He turned slightly — and saw Lily standing in the hallway.
Pale.
Jaw clenched.
Eyes locked on the woman like a memory she never wanted to meet again.
The woman’s face brightened with fake sweetness.
“There you are,” she said. “You owe me, you know. I gave you life.”
Lily didn’t flinch.
Daniel stepped between them automatically.
“You have no legal rights,” he said. “You abandoned her. I have the report. The note. Everything.”
The woman’s expression hardened.
“You think I came here without a plan? I’ll take you to court. She’s mine.”
The room went silent.
Then Lily stepped forward.
