The journey began with an ambitious idea, a few hundred dollars in his pocket, and a determination to accomplish something that had never been done in quite the same way before.
In November 1998, Karl Bushby, a former British Army paratrooper from Hull, England, set out from Punta Arenas, at the southern tip of South America, with a remarkable goal: to make his way around the world and eventually return to his hometown without using motorized transportation to advance his journey.
He expected the adventure to take approximately 12 years.
