At first I ignored it. People sometimes misdial, especially late at night. I rolled over and closed my eyes again, expecting the call to stop after a few seconds. But the vibration continued, buzzing insistently against the table as if whoever was calling refused to give up.
After the fourth ring, the call finally ended.
For a moment the room went silent again.
Then the phone started vibrating a second time.
I sighed quietly and nudged Daniel’s shoulder.
“Your phone is ringing.”
