Then the woman said words that made the entire stadium gasp.
“He stole you from me.”
I felt sick instantly.
People all around us started whispering.
Teachers stared.
Parents turned in their seats.
Phones came out.
And my dad?
He just stood there looking completely broken.
I kept waiting for him to deny it.
To yell.
To say she was crazy.
But he didn’t.
That scared me more than anything.
The woman stepped closer and grabbed my hand.
“I’m your mother,” she said. “He lied to you your whole life.”
My brain couldn’t even process the words.
Mother?
I had spent my entire life wondering why my mother never wanted me…
wondering if she was dead…
wondering if maybe one day she’d come back because she loved me after all.
And now she was standing in front of me in the middle of my graduation.
Accusing my dad of stealing me.
I turned toward him shaking.
“Dad… tell me she’s lying.”
He looked down at the ground for a few seconds before finally whispering:
“She’s right about one thing… I’m not your biological father.”
I swear my heart stopped.
It felt like my entire childhood suddenly became a lie.
