His six-year-old daughter, Lily, had finally fallen asleep after a miserable day of traveling. Their flight from Denver had been delayed three times, she had cried during the last hour because her ears hurt, and somewhere between baggage claim and the taxi, the battery in her tablet had died.
Now her cheek rested against his shoulder, one arm hanging loosely around his neck.
Ethan wasn’t going to wake her just to argue with someone at a hotel desk.
