How to Lighten Stubborn Stains on Clothing Using Rubbing Alcohol

Before You Begin

Choose a well-ventilated area and open a window if possible.

Place the garment flat on a clean towel and make sure it has already been thoroughly rinsed if any bleach was previously used.

Never mix bleach and rubbing alcohol. The combination can be dangerous.

What You’ll Need

  • Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
  • Cotton ball or cotton swab
  • Small container
  • Clean water
  • Washing machine detergent

Step 1: Prepare the Alcohol

Pour about 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of rubbing alcohol into a small container.

Do not exceed the recommended amount.

Step 2: Apply to the Stain

Lightly soak a cotton ball with 2–3 ml of alcohol.

The cotton should be damp but not dripping.
