I Came Home with My Newborn Twins to Find the Locks Changed, My Stuff Thrown Out

He promised he’d come as soon as he could.

Then the line went dead.

I sat there, staring at the wall, trying to keep my emotions from spilling everywhere.

Because the truth was simple and ugly: if his mother called, Derek moved.

So I got a taxi.

  • I secured two car seats with shaking hands.
  • I adjusted blankets like they were armor.
  • I told myself we’d be home soon and this would still be a beautiful day.

I believed that right up until the driveway came into view.
