“She wrote a note pretending to be you.”
At first, he looked like his brain refused to accept reality.

He didn’t argue.

He just grabbed his keys and walked out with a kind of silence that meant: this is over.
We drove home fast.

“Mom,” he said, voice flat. “What did you do?”
She opened her mouth.

“Save it,” he said. “I know everything.”
