I cut him off with one word.
“No.”
He froze.
So did everyone else.
Because they weren’t used to hearing that word from me.
Then I said the sentence that ended the night:
“You have five minutes to leave.”
They argued. They protested. They tried guilt.
But none of it landed—because it was too late.
They’d already shown my daughters who they really were.
And I’d already decided who we wouldn’t be anymore.
