I Sat in the Cramped Break Room, Sipping Coffee, When a Colleague’s Offhand Comment About Secret Superpowers Hit Too Close to Home

As she left, I pondered the encounter. It was a reminder that not everyone viewed my differences as a threat. Perhaps there was room for allies, even in a place where conformity was the norm.

Yet, the upcoming meeting loomed large, its outcome uncertain. The department head’s influence was undeniable, and I knew that her decision would be final.
