“I was thinking…” I hesitated, choosing my words. “Sixty-forty. You take sixty.”
That got his attention.
His head snapped up. “Sixty?”
I nodded. “You stayed here. You took care of her these last few years. It’s only fair.”
For a second, I thought I saw something shift in his expression—surprise, maybe even relief. But it disappeared almost instantly, replaced by something harder.
“You think this is about money?” he asked quietly.
I frowned. “What else would it be about?”
