My first thought was that someone had attached it as a prank while I was away. My second thought was much worse: What if something was living inside it?
I stood there staring at it for several minutes, trying to figure out what I was looking at.
The surface looked papery and fragile, but it was much larger than any wasp nest I had ever seen. There were tiny holes scattered across it, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something might suddenly crawl out.
The neighbors hadn’t mentioned anything.
