In the Backyard on That Bright Spring Afternoon, I Confronted My Grandmother About the Dirty Bag of Walnuts She Brought to the Wedding

Opening the bag felt like a Pandora’s box, a step into the unknown that could unravel the fabric of our family.

Yet, the curiosity was overwhelming, a need to understand, to piece together the fragments of our relationship.

As I held it, the memory of her walking away at the wedding replayed in my mind. Her retreat had been a declaration, one I was still trying to decipher.

And so, I placed the bag back on the counter, unresolved but not forgotten, a part of the landscape of my life.
