It’s Christmas Eve at My Parents’ House, and When My Hands Were Empty, My Mom Said, ‘Be Grateful You Can Sit Here.’

Perhaps it was time to confront the situation.

To find my voice amidst the silence.

But fear held me back, the fear of upsetting the delicate balance.

Of being further isolated.

Yet, the weight of the silence was becoming unbearable.

Maybe the meeting would provide clarity.

Or maybe it would bring more confusion.

For now, all I could do was wait.

Wait and watch as the family continued without me.
