During the pre-race tribute on May 24, 2026, NASCAR honored Kyle as his family stood together on the grid at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Samantha appeared emotional throughout the ceremony, while Brexton kept his head lowered during several moments of silence.
According to USA Today, Kyle had originally been scheduled to compete in the Coca-Cola 600 before his sudden death shocked the NASCAR world just days earlier.
Instead of watching him race, Samantha, Brexton, daughter Lennix, Kyle’s parents Tom and Gaye, and his brother Kurt Busch with his girlfriend, Lyda Moore, walked onto the infield alongside NASCAR officials to honor his memory.

During the tribute, NASCAR president Steve O’Donnell reflected on Kyle’s legacy both on and off the track.
“Every racetrack was Kyle Busch’s home,” he told the crowd, before praising the late driver not only as a champion, but also as a husband, father, and teammate who quietly helped others behind the scenes.
He later spoke directly to the family, telling Samantha that NASCAR would always stand beside her and her children.
“Samantha, I want you to know that this sport stands with you, and you and your children are NASCAR family forever. Brexton and Lennix, your dad loves you with all his heart. Everyone gathered here, everyone behind you, everyone watching on TV and all those people up in that grandstand, they are your family and we’ve got you.”
The emotional tribute ended with one final statement that left many fans visibly shaken. “Kyle Busch is NASCAR,” O’Donnell said. “He was one of a kind, and there will never be another.”
