My life became blood tests, dialysis, medication alarms, and waiting rooms where everyone tried not to look afraid.
They never gave him an answer he liked.
Neither did I.
Every week ended with the same thought: Maybe this was my life now. Forever.
When the transplant team tested my family, I pretended I wasn’t scared. My mother squeezed my hand while the coordinator explained compatibility. My brother joked that his kidney was “premium stock.” Even Dad smiled.
