Your first thought may be simple:
“The wind probably blew it there.”
But then you remember the frightening warnings shared across social media. According to these posts, criminals deliberately place bottles beside parked cars to create a loud noise when the driver begins moving.
The noise supposedly makes the driver stop, leave the engine running, and step outside to investigate. While the driver is distracted, someone allegedly jumps into the vehicle or steals valuables from inside.
It sounds believable.
It is also frightening enough to make almost anyone hesitate.
But is the plastic-bottle carjacking warning actually true?
