The Day They Tried to Remove Him
My dad arrived early.
He adjusted his tie and looked around, clearly overwhelmed.
When he saw me, his face lit up.
“You look beautiful, princess.”
Ethan hugged him.
“Really glad you’re here, Joe.”
Then the whispers started.
Guests being gently redirected.
Empty chairs forming around my dad’s table.
Finally, Ethan’s parents approached him.
“We have a lot of important guests,” his mother said softly.
“People might feel uncomfortable.”
His father added, “It would be best if you left early. For appearances.”
I was ready to explode.
But my dad raised a hand.
“I understand,” he said calmly. “But may I say a few words first?”
