That’s why many homeowners are returning to simple, old-fashioned solutions that use ingredients already found in the kitchen.
Recently, I learned a few homemade pest-control tricks from an older neighbor who hasn’t purchased commercial bug spray in years.
At first, I was skeptical.
Then I saw the ingredients.
The Homemade Mosquito Trap
Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide—the same gas humans naturally exhale when they breathe.
This simple trap uses that fact to lure mosquitoes away from you.
What You’ll Need
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 1 empty 2-liter plastic bottle
How to Make It
- Mix the sugar and baking powder into the hot water.
- Stir until completely dissolved.
- Add the yeast.
- Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes until bubbles begin to form.
- Cut the plastic bottle about one-third from the top.
- Pour the mixture into the bottom section.
- Turn the top upside down and place it inside like a funnel.
Place the trap near windows, patios, balconies, or other mosquito-prone areas.
