The air was thick with tension as she walked back behind the counter. Her manager’s eyes followed her, a silent accusation she couldn’t ignore.
“You can’t just leave your station like that,” he finally said, shaking his head.
She opened her mouth to explain, but he raised a hand to stop her.
“I understand why you did it,” he continued, softer now, “but we have rules for a reason.”
