This uncertainty is important. The absence of decades of evidence does not mean that vaping is safe; it means that some of its long-term effects remain incompletely understood.
What Happens When Someone Uses Both Cigarettes and Vapes?
One common mistake is assuming that vaping occasionally can cancel out the damage caused by smoking cigarettes.
In reality, people who continue smoking while also vaping may retain much of their smoking-related health risk. Simply reducing the number of cigarettes smoked does not eliminate the dangers associated with tobacco smoke.
For example, someone might replace several cigarettes with a vape but continue smoking every morning, during work breaks or in the evening. Although their exposure to some harmful chemicals may decrease, they are still inhaling toxic substances from burning tobacco.
This pattern, known as dual use, can make it difficult to achieve the full potential health benefits of switching away from cigarettes.
