The developers offered the lifelong farmer $60,000 an acre for the land, meaning the total for the whole 261 acres was more than $15 million β a life-changing amount of money.
But despite the enormous amount being offered, Raudabaugh said no.
The farmer opened up about why he turned down the multi-million dollar offer on the farm from the developers.
It wasn’t an easy decision. The money could have changed his life, allowed him to retire comfortably, and provided for his family for generations.
Yet, Raudabaugh had his reasons. Reasons deeply rooted in his love for the land and his family’s legacy.
His ancestors had worked the soil, nurturing it with care and respect. For Raudabaugh, the land was more than just a piece of property; it was a part of his identity.
He recalled fond memories of his childhood, running through the fields, learning the ropes from his father.
This land was where he felt most at home.
Turning it into concrete and steel just didn’t sit right with him.
