One nun prayed to die on a Saturday because it was the day dedicated to the Virgin Mary. She got her wish.
One family lost four members in a single day. An aunt and her three nieces. All nuns. All executed together on July 16th.
When judges asked one nun to explain what they meant by fanaticism, she gave them an answer that still echoes today.
“You cannot make me not be a nun.”
And they could not.
July 13th. Six more nuns killed.
July 16th, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Seven nuns killed in a single day.
By July 26th, only five remained. That morning, all five were taken to the guillotine. Four Ursulines and one Sacramentine. The thirty-second nun was dead.
