Javier tried approaching again, but I stepped back. “I won’t marry someone who lies,” I said, “or a family that treats my future like a business deal.”
Carmen, pale and defeated, sat down clutching her chest. The judge closed his folder calmly. “I believe this ceremony is over,” he announced.
