Months of Tension Erupt Into Violence
Tensions between the United States and Venezuela had been building for months.
President Donald Trump repeatedly warned that his administration was targeting what he described as “narco-terrorist” networks operating in and around Venezuelan territory.
Since early September, U.S. forces reportedly carried out maritime operations that resulted in more than 110 deaths in open water, according to multiple reports.
Those actions already raised alarms across Latin America.
Saturday’s strikes marked a dramatic escalation.
