(New York, New York) – Zohran Mamdani is urging residents across New York City to step up as a major blizzard barrels toward the region, calling on volunteers to serve as emergency snow shovelers during the storm.
In a public message ahead of the expected snowfall, Mamdani asked able-bodied New Yorkers to report to their local sanitation garages between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to assist with snow removal. The blizzard, expected to bring record-breaking snowfalls, poses a significant challenge to the city’s infrastructure.
“This is a call to action for our community,” Mamdani said, emphasizing the need for collective effort. “The snow won’t shovel itself, and we need all hands on deck to keep our city safe and functional.”
The response from New Yorkers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their willingness to help. “It’s inspiring to see how people are ready to come together,” said a local volunteer. “We all need to do our part.”
Authorities have also issued advisories for residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel during the peak of the storm. The city’s transit services are preparing to adjust schedules based on weather conditions, ensuring safety for commuters.
