In the middle of heartbreak and destruction, a tiny life held on. A baby girl, only a month and a half old, survived 128 hours buried under rubble after the massive earthquake struck Turkey and Syria.

When rescuers pulled her out alive, people around the world felt a spark of hope. At first, it was believed her mother had died in the disaster.

With no relatives identified, the baby was placed under state care and given the name β€œGizem,” meaning mystery.

Weeks later, a DNA test revealed the truth. Her injured mother, Yaseming Besdag, had survived in another hospital.

Nearly two months later, they were finally reunited.

Their embrace became a symbol of resilience during one of the darkest moments of 2023. Mother and daughter were the only survivors in their family.
