In the middle of heartbreak and destruction, a tiny life held on. A baby girl, only a month and a half old, survived 128 hours buried under rubble after the massive earthquake struck Turkey and Syria.
When rescuers pulled her out alive, people around the world felt a spark of hope. At first, it was believed her mother had died in the disaster.
With no relatives identified, the baby was placed under state care and given the name “Gizem,” meaning mystery. Weeks went by, and the world watched, hoping for a miracle.
