The ride to the ranch was slow and careful. Harrison helped Martha into the front seat of the wagon so she would feel fewer jolts from the uneven road.

Rebecca sat in the back, holding their small trunk as though it carried their entire past inside it. The land stretched wide and endless—rolling hills, dotted with clusters of trees that marked the horizon.

As they traveled, the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows that danced among the grass. Each mile brought them closer to a new beginning, yet the air was thick with unspoken fears.

Harrison glanced over at Martha, whose hands were clasped tightly in her lap. He knew the journey ahead was more than just physical; it was a test of their resolve.

The road wound through a narrow valley, and Rebecca turned to catch a glimpse of a distant farmhouse. Her heart quickened at the thought of finally arriving, yet uncertainty whispered in her ear.
