Part II – A Home for Three

The ride to the ranch was slow and careful. Harrison helped Martha into the front seat of the wagon so she would feel fewer jolts from the uneven road. Rebecca sat in the back, holding their small trunk as though it carried their entire past inside it. The land stretched wide and endless—rolling hills, dotted with patches of wildflowers and the occasional lone tree providing a hint of shade.

As they approached the ranch, the horizon seemed to expand, offering a glimpse of the home that would shelter them. Harrison glanced at Martha, who was trying to mask her nervousness with a brave smile. Rebecca, though silent, was filled with anticipation.

They reached the crest of a small hill, and the ranch came into view—a modest house, with a wraparound porch and a barn that stood as a testament to years of hard work. A place full of potential and dreams yet to be realized.

Harrison halted the wagon, taking a moment to breathe in the fresh country air. The sight before them was humble, yet there was a sense of peace that settled over the family.
