“Please don’t let him find me,” she whispered.
I was pumping gas at the next island. Close enough to see everything.
The soccer moms started filming immediately. One of them pulled her kids behind her car. The station manager came outside yelling at the biker to step away from the child.
But the biker didn’t listen to any of them. He knelt down slow, his massive hands incredibly gentle, and looked at the girl’s injuries without touching them.
“You’re safe,” he said quietly. “Nobody’s finding you here.”
The manager got louder. “I’m calling the cops right now if you don’t step away from that girl.”
“Call them,” the biker said calmly. “Tell them the Guardians of the Children have a child in distress. They’ll know what that means.”
